Background
Implementation of a strategic project within the Company, which involved a reduction in cost of repair and basic maintenance and an increase in personnel’s productivity.
-
Solution
The project lasted 8 months and was conducted in 2 stages: production processes analysis and making recommendations for production processes optimization. The research of production processes covered several areas and included description and analysis of process flow charts of the structural units under examination, number and utilization rate of the production personnel, unproductive downtime, production equipment used and infrastructure of the structural units, supporting functions, logistics and quality control of logistical resources, as well as analysis of potential for increasing structural units’ production capacity utilization by taking orders from the outside.
Optimization activities were specified and incorporated into the developed model and concept of the structural unit network’s target state map, target state process map for the analyzed structural units. The developed program of administrative and technical measures for cost optimization of railroad passenger cars’ repair and maintenance will facilitate implementation of optimization activities.

Results
Developed the model and the concept of the structural unit network’s target state map. Developed the target state process map for structural units requiring optimization, which accounted for potential of increasing structural units’ production capacity utilization and downsizing of production personnel as well as optimizing logistical resources and introducing the labor-saving tools. Developed the program of administrative and technical measures for cost optimization of railroad passenger cars’ repair and maintenance.
